The quote, "Where liberty dwells there is my country" has been attributed to Benjamin Franklin, however no evidence has been found verifying this, but Beth felt it was a great quote whoever said it and used it as the basis for this huswife. For those who are unfamiliar with what a huswife is, according to the Reformed Presbyterian Magazine, September 1, 1864, "it is a long piece of cloth with a number of small pockets sewed along one side, and made to fold up like a pocket book, having separate places for buttons, thread, needles, pins, & etc, such as some of you may have seen your mothers or grandmothers use." The model is stitched on R & R Reproductions 36 ct. Old Mill Java using Weeks Dye Works: Parchment, Sandcastle, Dirt Road, Grape Vine, Fathom, Moss and Red Rocks.

Project Quarantine: Stay Home and Stitch- When we were informed that we would have to quarantine, many people were frightened not only by the Pandemic but also the amount of time they would be stuck at home. When stitchers found out they would be spending every day at home for weeks on end, they ran to their closets and pulled out their stitching. Never have so many stitchers, men and women, had so much time to work on their projects and the flood of pictures on Instagram and Facebook shows how industrious they have been. Brenda has designed this pincushion, pillow, picture (whatever it is to you) for you to have your own souvenir of this time.

An original needlework design by Theresa M. Baird. Virginia-A Cumberland Country Inspiration is the 6th sampler in Theresa's 13 Colonies Series. It made its debut at the Loudoun Sampler Guild in 2019 and recently won a First Place Ribbon at the 2020 Woodlawn Needlework Exhibit in Alexandria, Virginia. As with most of the samplers in this series, Theresa gained inspiration from antiques from the State she's This. The inspiration came from a rare and important antique needlework sampler wrought by Phebe Walton of Cumberland Country, Virginia in the 4th quarter of the 18th Century. The sampler incorporates a number of specialty stitches, which are illustrated in the stitch diagram section of the instructions for this chart. It is stitched using Belle Soie Silks by Classic Colorworks or Needlepoint, Inc. silks, or DMC. The model was stitched on a fat half of 40 Lakeside Linen's Vintage Strawflower. However should you decide to use a different count, here are the approx. design sizes:

Sometimes it's the simplicity of a design that makes it so beautiful and that's what this design is for me. It's beautiful in it's simplicity. But at this time in the world, it also has another meaning....courteous goodwill, something that is lacking as we all struggle through the pandemic, some attacking others for their views. This is a gorgeous reminder to us all to have grace and treat others with grace. If you were lucky enough to be named Grace, this would be perfect hung on your bedroom door, or hung in your room.
