Lauren Sauer Class
June 6-8, 2008...Join us for our 4th annual Lauren Sauer Class. This year we will be working on 2 projects. On Saturday...
"A Designing Woman's Miniature Drawing Portfolio"

This is the second part of the Designing Woman's series which we began last year. This year we will be putting together the portfolio which goes with the tools of the trade we completed in 2007. This is a pre-worked class, so if you are interested in taking this class you need to alert us as soon as possible. Lauren's techniques for finishing these pieces is impeccable and the joy of this class is that you will be taking home finished projects. On Sunday we will be working on:
"Key to My Heart"

This diminutive heart shaped pocket is embroidered front and back, inside and out and provides a very pretty place of safe keeping for the special key to your heart. The sprig motif is borrowed from the 17th century English band sampler and is taken from its original blackwork into a fully embroidered stylization of a forget-me-not, the much loved, age-old emblem of constancy and loyalty. The tiny key fob takes the heart in hand motif, twists and turns it into "key in hand" and is attached to your own antique key with gaily colored ribbons. Garden blend 30ct linen provides the ground upon which you will work and a palette of threads is offered from The Gentle Art, Caron Collection, Gloriana and the Thread Gatherer. All finishing and assembly instructions are included.
Kit includes: Linen, threads, fibers, ribbon, needles, finishing materials, charts, and instructions. Bring light magnification if needed and provide your own 2" - 3" antique key.
As these are pre-stitch projects you need to let us know asap if you intend to take this class. Please call the shop or e-mail Sally (saltyyarns@aol.com) to make reservations for this class. Because there are two projects involved this year the total cost of the two day weekend is $475.00 which includes both kits, 2 nights lodging, Saturday's lunch, continental breakfast each morning and one of Sally's "goodie bags."

Featured Designers
Lauren Sauer... has been teaching at a weekend retreat here for the past 3 years and the weekend retreat stitchers wanted everyone to see the wonderful projects Lauren brings to the table so we asked her to teach a class at Jamboree. Her designs are innovative and one of a kind projects that are fun and challenging to stitch and finish. Lauren will be teaching her finishing technique on cushions on a miniature adirondack chair. Her way of finishing is quite unique and will teach you new skills so that you can then finish other projects you have.
Jane Timmers... began cross-stitching in her mid-twenties and quickly became enamored with samplers and other historic needlework. She began designing in 1990 and began publishing her designs under the name Fancy Work in 1994. Most of her designs are based on sewing accessories (necessities) and motifs of the past, from Elizabethan costume, samplers from the 16th, 17th & 18th centuries, and Victorian and Edwardian accessories.
Eileen Bennett... designer, author, lecturer, teacher and owner of The Sampler House, is passionate about antique needlework and samplers of the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Eileen will be teaching a mixed media class including Pulled Thread, Reversible Blackwork and counted surface work, called Catherine's Pyn Pillow and Scissor Fob. This is the perfect class to try the embroidery technique of Blackwork. Two small projects will be worked teaching the reversible stitch called double running. Student may also work this design with a back stitch. Both techniques will be taught and explained in detail. Spanish born, Catherine of Aragon popularized English Blackwork embroidery in the 16th century. This type of needlework lavishly decorated clothing and household textiles of the era. The project for this class is a tribute to Queen Catherine. Using antique white colored 36-count linen, the class will cover directions for making two sewing accessories; a pyn-pillow (pin cushion) and a scissor fob. Additional stitches used include crosses, queens, flat (satin) and Cobblestone Filling, a pulled thread stitch. All are worked with DMC Floss and DMC #80 Special Dentelles threads. (For students finding the 36-count fabric hard on the eyes, they may bring their own fabric. A 14-inch square of linen is needed.)
