Sherri Jones Weekend

April 20-22, 2018

It's exciting to welcome Sherri Jones back again in 2018 when she will again be holding the Friday finishing class and on Saturday and Sunday the following fabulous classes.

Friday Finishing Day-  This class is a perfect opportunity to finish any class piece you have previously taken from Sherri.  Lunch is provided.  Cost:  $75.00

Saturday- "Fanciful Fragaria" -The petite basket pin cushion is a fanciful objet d'art created by the very talented scrim artist, Cynthia Linnell, exclusively for Patrick's Woods.  The basket is inspired by an antique ivory pin cushion in Sherri's collection and measures approx. 3" wide x 2.5" tall (1.5" high without handles).  The cushion is made of custom dyed velvet.  A diminutive needle roll complements the basket and is embroidered on a 40 ct. silk gauze canvas with silk floss.  The needle roll is embellished with 18th century style sampler motifs and measures 2.5" wide x approx. 7" long unrolled.  The interior features three slip pockets for storing special Victorian inspired needle packets.  The canvas is backed with a fine silk dupioni, so there is no need to fill in  the canvas background with embroidery!  Alternatively, the needle roll may be worked on linen fabric (not included in the class kit).  The needle roll is finished by hand and edged with custom dyed silk taffeta ribbon.  Two teeny strawberry emeries complete the kit.  Class Cost is $435 which includes 2 nights lodging, breakfast, lunch during class on Saturday, and the kit (includes basket pieces embellished with scrim art, 40 ct. silk gauze, 34 ct. faux silk canvas, silk floss, dupioni silk fabric, custom dyed velvet, custom dyed silk ribbons, cotton batting, wool felt, and printed Victorian style needle packets.)  This class is already full, but we have started a waiting list just in case.

Sunday Class- Plum and Pleated Parlour Purse with Period Pastimes- The Purse is inspired by a Shaker bronzed leather sewing purse in Sherri's collection and measures approx. 8" wide x 2" tall and expands to a plump 13" around.  The Purse is contructed of alternating embroidered and silk panels.  An ingenious construction, the silk panels are pleated, allowing the purse to either fold down to a smaller size, or the silk panels can be extended to plump up the purse and expand the interior.  Whimsical motifs on the embroidered panels are inspired by the pursuits and pastimes enjoyed in the Victorian parlour.  Whist and other lively card games are represtned on one panel with an old fashioned joker displaying a fan of cards.  The joker is flanked by crowns to represent the royal playing cards of the hears and diamonds suits.  A second panel represents the importance of music in the Victorian parlour and includes the favored parlour pets parrot and songbird.  A third panel represents the popular Punch and Judy puppets.  The puppets are presented as silhouettes to reflect the common hand shadow games of the day.  Punch's dog Toby looks on.  And the key motifs represent the mechanical amusements such as windup toys, games and music boxes.  Three linen panels are embroidered in silk shades similar to colros found on Victorian linen playing cards; withered rose-brown, old brick, brownstone blue, and tinted pearl.  The panels are embroidered on 32 ct. linen with tent stitch and upright cross stitch.  Class instruction includes Parlour Purse, Mr. Punch's Pyn Pillow, Playing Card Pinkeep, Hand Shadow Scissors Case and miss Deal's Book to hold favorite tools.  Kits of additional pieces to complement the set will be available for separate purchase.  Kit inclues linen, silk floss, silk fabric, printed fabric, printed card templates, Ultrasuede, silk taffeta ribbons, mother of pearl  buckle, mother of pearl buttons, needle and interfacing.  Class cost is $460..this includes two nights lodging, breakfast, lunch during class, and the kit.  Deposit- $260

Beth Twist- (Heartstring Samplery)-“Specializing in cross stitch designs that range from whimsical to formal. Most of my design ideas come floating to me through the atmosphere, taking shape on my screen, then finalized with my needle. All are inspired in some way by the work of countless girls in past centuries, worked with thread on linen, and sometimes I throw in an authentic reproduction of one of their masterpieces for good measure.”

Sharon  Verbos (The Purple Thread- Specializes in counted cross stitch creations which celebrate the everyday lives of women and combine antique treasures, easy finishing, and fun stories into each of her creations. She has been designing projects for many years and teaching some very special projects.
