A collection of traditional Quaker motifs are scattered across this berry design. The silk berry's central motif includes a monogram (alphabet included), and is stitched in a multi-colored palette. The linen berry motifs are stitched in a single color, although a multi-colored color key is included.   The silk berry topper is a bit of lace for a 'cap,' topped with a miniature wooden spool. Wool and pearl-head straight pins cap the linen berry, with matching wool-covered straight pins for accent.

A bit more than two inches long, this guy is joined by his cardinal and chickadee friends and sporting his best hat and scarf! The sky has a bit of grid pattern plus star-like snowflakes. Mini pom-pom trim and a bit or organdy ribbon top it off.  The Linen Berry version still includes his winged friends, all on a swirling, snowy background. The top of this berry is made of a purchased foam snowflake and a stack of black buttons for a "top hat!"

Princessa and the Pea.................Jackie du Plessis of It's Fine-ally Finished

This is a class piece...Jackie will be here September 9-11, 2016,  to teach two classes and Princessa and the Pea will be one of them.
When you hear the words “Princess” and “Pea” you immediately think of the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale called “Princess and the Pea”.  This beloved fairy tale evokes thoughts of stacking mattresses a princess and hidden treasures.  I wanted to create a collection of functional and stylish objects that reflect our time.  This project is centered around a Pea Pod theme and explores different mediums such as paper, paint, linen, wool and silks.

The “Princessa and the Pea” is a collection of three stacking paper Mache boxes, painted and waxed in class.  These three boxes each with a theme is stack, one on top of the other, and represent three green peas.  A silk fabric pea pod case snugly holds the three pea boxes together.  Tendrils with button flowers made of paper, wool and ribbons cascade down from the soft, scalloped woolen needle page leaves.

Each of the pea boxes stores a theme:
The top box: Rock - a tiny Jade bead sits upon stacking pillows next to a tiny tiara.
The middle box: Paper and all treasures made with paper.
The bottom box: Scissors.

Note that the buttons are attached in sets of three, representing the three peas with the three pea boxes.
No collection could be complete without a stitched Pea Pod needle case created with a pulled stitch mimicking three tiny peas.

Your kit will include all the supplies needed to stitch and assemble the Princessa and Pea project alone with detailed pictures and instructions.

Optional items:
Scrimshaw thread winder and ruler available for purchase.
Wooden pea thread holder

Princessa and the Pea Class- $360 with a  deposit of $185. This includes a room for one night at the Lankford Hotel (where the classes are held),  continental breakfast the day of the class along with lunch, plus the kit.

Mexican Purse............Class...............Betsy Morgan

Mexican Purse-  This.design is a Mexican stitcher's purse.  Its full name is "Maria Katarin's Stitching Reticule".  It is named for our adopted daughter, Caitie, who is part Mexican.  The various motifs and techniques used in this purse were inspired by an 1844 sampler from Pachuca, Mexico which is in my collection.

When folded closed, the reticule measures 4 x 8 inches.  It is stitched on light mocha Belfast linen using Gloriana silk flosses and is lined in olive silk Dupioni.  Inside there are 3 small pockets for
holding your small needlework tools including two of the smalls in this design - a scissor fob and a thread winder.  The reticule also includes a 5 inch stitched ruler.

Stitches include: Aztec, eyelet, diagonal pattern darning, pulled four sided, long arm cross, diagonal satin, Mexican klosters, satin, rice, upright cross, cross over one and cross over two.

..This is a pre-stitch class. The cost for this class is $300.00. with a deposit of  $125.00

Pioneer Girl Sampling Book......Class..........Betsy Morgan

June 3-5, 2016-It's always exciting to welcome Betsy Morgan back to teach her wonderful designs.

Pioneer Girl Sampling Book... This class was inspired by a book called "Pioneer Memorial Museum Samplers" and was written by Loree Romriell.  Betsy has turned her vision of the samplers in the book, into a book.  The outside cover of the book is loosely based on a very simple sampler in the collection which is worked on "training cloth", which was made in an effort to assist young girls in stitching in nice neat rows.  The cloth is made by removing every tenth linen ground thread and weaving a colored thread back in so that it looks like modern day school notebook paper.  Students will do this as part of the project.

Inside the book, instead of pages, there are two boxes which hold smalls - a scissor pouch and fob and two thread winders.  The spine of the book is a pin roll and one of the inside box lids has a wool felt needle page attached to its lining.  The project was stitched on Platinum Belfast linen which I distressed after all of the embroidery was completed, to give it the worn and stained appearance of most of the original samplers.  Students may follow my lead on this or choose to leave theirs in pristine condition.

All of the motifs used were inspired and adapted from the samplers in the museum collection except the bee hive.  I felt that the design needed one since the bees and the hive, symbols of industriousness, are the symbols of the state of Utah.

This is a pre-stitch class. The cost for the weekend, which includes lodging for 2 nights, breakfast for 2 days, lunch on Saturday and the class kit is $325.00- Deposit for class is $150.00.

Joy to Ewe........................................Shepherd's Bush

So cute for the holidays, and the good news is the chart is free when you purchase the hat button.  We also have the 18 ct. linen and fibers to complete this project packed up and ready to ship out as well.  When stitched on the 18ct. the approx. finished size is  only about 3.5" x 4.5", but the pillow measures approx. 11" x 8" so it's a nice size pillow.  It would also look cute finished as a bag front with greens, etc. stuck in it.  But this would also be cute done on a smaller count, 28 or 32 and then framed.  This is a fast stitch, one night or two nights tops.  Great gift for Christmas

Pumpkin and Bargello Pin Cushions.....................Jeannette Douglas Designs

Two fabulous new pincushions designed for the Lone Elm Lane Shaker Pin Cushion Bases (come in Bittersweet, Brown, Brick Red, Black, Pewter), however, you don't have to use the bases, they would be fabulous without the base.  The Pumpkin Pin Cushion features 4 patterned pumpkins with a few beads and she's used 10 different over-dyed flosses.  Approx. finished size is 4"x4".   The Bargello Pin Cushion is done using one of my favorite run of stitches, bargello.  To fit this inside the Lone Elm base you have to do it on 35 ct. fabric (Jeannette used Cappucino), otherwise without the base you can use whatever count linen you want.  With any bargello it is really important that the first row be counted accurately because after that you are just following that first row and never have to look at the chart again. She's used just 5 colors and as always it's coded for silk, but you could choose your favorite run of over-dyed cotton or DMC as well..

Gingerbread Quilt Shop............................Victoria Sampler

A delicious Gingerbread Quilt Shop is the eighth addition to Thea's Gingerbread Village. Added to the Tree Etui, the Stitching House, Church, Candy Cane Cottage, Bakery, Haunted House and Needlework Shop, this year's Gingerbread building is densely stitched on Gingerbread colored linen and is inspired by all manner of quilting! The shop has a small entrance foyer, with the Quilt Shop name above the door, and a metal sewing machine sewn on its tiny roof. The front shows two friends quilting in the top floor window, while a little Christmas tree sparkles merrily behind them. There are few windows, but each of the walls are covered with quilts and quilt motifs. Each side is decorated completely differently from the other side. This gives an impression when assembled of being surrounded by all different quilts.   You will be stitching with silk flosses, Perle Cottons, sparkling beads and delicious looking candy, buttons. This delicious and fragrant Gingerbread Quilt Shop is dripping with icing, and lots of decorative candies to welcome the hungry visitor. This building was not lined, which makes finishing easier and faster. The thread/accessory packet includes all the silks, metallics, beads, gingerbread men buttons, micro buttons -- and even the little shop dog.

Victorian Band Sampler.................................Victoria Sampler

This beautiful Victorian Band Sampler is stitched on  28ct Summer Khaki or or a 28ct Raw Linen. You will be stitching with over-dyed silk and silk flosses, silk ribbons, wool, pearls, and sparkling beads. The topper is a gorgeous Bargello with a vine, above some creamy lacy stitching.   The Alphabet and then a scene picked out in petit Cross Stitches, of a large meeting house, and the tree of life, as well as petit bands for interest and fun. Further down, Mother Theresa’s inspiring verse is stitched within two bands of silk ribbon flowers. Another alphabet follows, and after some more creamy lace, there’s an English country scene with two friends reaching for the fruit of the ‘love’ tree in their garden. More flowers, and at the bottom is a  row of Bargello, incorporating the colours already used in the sampler.   The accessory packet has 8 types of different silks in it, beads, the ribbons... very pretty.

Ricardo's Roses..........................Drawn Thread

Cynthia's inspiration for this design was the rose garden across the street from her house and what she views from her office window.   She represents the rose garden with different specialty stitches and beautiful fibers of mossy greens, dusty roses and some tarnished gold.  The  little cottage is surrounded with the roses and climbing vines each of which has their own leaf stitch.  The finished size is approx. 2 3/4" x 7" when stitched on the recommended 32 ct. linen.  Offered chart only.

Beautiful Sea Sampler.................Samplers Revisited

We are always being asked for wedding samplers with a beach theme and what could be more perfect that Beautiful Sea Sampler.  It's certainly got the sea elements, crabs (sort of look like the dancing crabs don't you think), almost whimsical whales, man o'wars, lighthouses, shells and starfish, I don't think Pat has missed anything here.  Model stitched on 36 ct.  Can also be used for birth,  anniversary or special events. Model stitched on 36 ct. Exampler from Lakeside Linens with Gentle Arts Sampler Threads and Weeks Dye Works Threads.  Finished size is approx. 15 1/2" x 14".

The Pastoral..............................Drawn Thread

This is such a gorgeous piece I hardly know where to start.  First, the choice of finishing, framed or a sewing pocket.  Cynthia has 18 pages filled with charts, and finishing possibilities, with several options.  Fabulous elements included, bees, houses, sheep and each time you look at it you find something else nestled in there, like the ladybugs and dragonflies.  As always she makes everything pop with specialty stitches.  This is stitched on 32 ct. Amber linen and the pocket finish is approx. 6" x 17" when laid flat, and foldeed about 6" x 5".  The fob is approx. 2"x 2.75".  The finished sampler before framing is approx. 6" x 12 1/2".  Stitched using Dinky Dyes and a little Gentle Arts Simply Wood for the sheep.

Another tart for Jack's Sweet Shoppe.  And just like the others, this can be made into an ornament or finished into a tart pan.  These tarts make a really nice large pin cushion...how cute are these?  While it's a bit hard to see in the picture, they have added rick rack around the edge of this piece.  With all the fabulous edgings there are now you can use different ones on each tart.  Fun Fast, and a great gift!  Stitched on 36 ct. George & Martha..............................................Plum Street Sampler

Keeping with the Patriotic Theme, Paulette presents the first couple of the country, George and Martha Washington.   Again she stitched them on 36 ct. linen and they finish approx. 4" x 5 1/4".  She stitched with Classic Colorworks but there is a conversion listed for DMC.  While Paulette doesn't call for it, I look at this piece and think there are opportunities here to use a couple of specialty stitches to add some dimension (not that it needs it but specialty stitches are fun) and I know I'd add a bead or two on it.  I stitched a house a couple of months ago that did specialty stitches on the roof and the doors and I loved it so I might be tempted to do that here.  And the middle of each of the star motifs...well that just says a bead to me.  Any way, stitch it the way it is shown or add your own special touch.   Looks like a fun stitch to me!

Winsome Pair.........................Plum Street Samplers

The final patriotic offering from Paulette is Winsome Pair which is her tribute to the dogs of the white house, a scottie, and his buddy, the bald eagle.  (usually Paulette does dachsunds so this is a new dog for her).  So cute and approx. design size is approx. 5 1/2" x 2" when worked on 36 ct. linen.  Worked using Classic Colorworks but DMC conversion is included. This is such a cute design I think I'd use a couple of specialty stitches and you know I'd use a bead for the center of the flowers at least.
