Noah's Christmas Ark 1.................Plum Street Samplers

Noah's  Christmas Ark ! is the first in a series of Christmas ornaments. This will be a year-long series, with two ornaments per chart released 6 times throughout the year. There are 12 ornaments total ( Paulette says there will be 9 more, but she will be explaining more about this later.) which can be stitched as they are shown on the covers, or all together, on one piece of fabric! It just depends on if you want a larger sampler at the end of the year, or 12 + 1 individual ornaments.  If you choose to stitch these as ornaments, each block will be 58w x 48h. But if you want to stitch them all on one piece of fabric (three horizontal rows with four blocks each, pictured below), your stitch count will be 244w x 152h. This stitch count includes four blank rows (or 8 threads if using linen) both horizontally and vertically between each of the twelve blocks. The ornaments will be stitched on 36 ct. Patriot's Brew by R&R Reproductions. The threads used on just the Crocodiles and Giraffes are as follows: DMC 3072; Weeks Dye Works in Sanguine, Dove, Bullfrog, Parchment, Garrison Green, Kudzu, Grapevine, Collards, Molasses, Cayenne, and Gunmetal; and Classic Colorworks in Stepping Stones and Hazelnut.  If you want to have all the threads on hand for the entire project, regardless of how it is stitched, you will also need the following six colors: DMC 3013 and 3033; Weeks Dye Works in Tin Roof, Galvanized, Crimson, and Baked Apple.  Paulette also recommends  that you have 2 Grapevine and 2 Parchment on hand.  All of the ornaments are stitched in full cross stitch over two threads, but there are just a couple of blocks with a few back-stitches or long-stitches in them.

Festive Little Fobs-Valentine Edition...........Heartstring Samplery

This series will consist of 12 total, one for each month of 2018.  Some will be seasonal, the rest will have general themes, good for any time of year.  The intent is for there to be a whole lot of littles that you can stitch for friends and/or that you can fill a little tree with.   Imagine if you worked your way through this entire series; with at least 9 different motifs per chart, that’s a total of 108 little ornaments or fobs that you could fill an old feather tree with. Or 108 friends that you could spoil with the labors of your hands. Beth has included basic instructions for a few of the fob finishes.  Beth's intention for this series is for the motifs to be mix-and-match-able. Your fobs don’t have to be one-sided; you could easily stitch front and back with the same motif, or with different motifs of the same size. You can customize with your initials and date over two or over one, or put in the initials of a special someone that you are making a gift for. but you can use your creativity! They are small and really quite simple to maker tree. There are no limits to the things that could be made with these little motifs.  The models were stitched on 36 ct. Weeks Parchment, but and are approx. 1.5" x 1.5".  However, you can stitched them on 32 ct or 28 ct. to get a little larger finished project.  Models were stitched using Week Dye Works: Red Rocks, Oscar, Mocha, Havana, Bluecoat Red, and Fawn, but these small projects are a great way to use left over floss in your stash.

Merry Christmas!.......................Brenda Gervais

While Brenda designed this to be stitched on 28 ct. Mushroom Lugana, I saw it and instantly saw this as a perfect design to stitch on 18 ct. over 2 for a nice size chair or sofa pillow approx. 15" x 6", using pearl cottons...fabulous.  The finished size, when working on 28 linen would be 5 3/8" x 2", for a cute pin cushion or a little accent pillow for your bowl display.  Either way a perfect pillow for Christmas.    The piece is finished off with linen ric rac trim for added detail.   If stitching over one is daunting for you, well just stitch over 2 threads or on aida and just increase the size of linen or aida you get.  For instance over 2 on 28 ct. would finish approx. 11" x 4".  Anyway you stitch it, it's a great Christmas design.  Fibers used are:

Weeks Dye Works: Palomino

Gentle Arts: Woodrose, Wood Trail and Endive

Classic Colorworks: Chili Pepper, Eggshell, Peanut Brittle & Straw Hat

This is an authentic reproduction of an early 18th century band sampler, worked in the traditional long, narrow band form of the 17th century with brightly colored silks.  Jane was just 7 years old when she stitched this.  The lower half of the sampler has rows of border patterns including 2 "oriental" figures, Jane's version of boxers.  Nicole Parkman has done a beautiful job of reproducing this sampler and presenting it in a book with all the motifs counted out for you within the graph and there are comprehensive instructions together with stitch guides.  The stitches used are cross stitch over 2 and three threads, satin stitch, Algerianeyelets, Montenegrin stitch over 2 and 3 threads, stem stitch, back stitch, double running stitch, and faggot stitch.  Fibers used are Soie d'Alger: 2644(3), 3833, 4245, 5024, 3815, 37336(2), 3812(2), 2926(3), 3745, 3435, 4246, 1814, 1812, 1745, 3724(2), 1746(2), 1742..  The chart shows both the shade symbol and the colour block.  The graph has been annotated with detailed instructions, stitch diagrams and shade numbers for ease of use.  Finished size when stitching on 40 ct linen is 8.4" x 34".  Shown stitched on 40 ct. Lakeside Linen Vintage Examplar.

Fanny Hodges Sampler..........................Threads of Memory

Although this sampler is probably English, one of the most delightful things about it is the set of motifs the sampler has in common with a grouping of samplers out of Deerfield, Massachusetts.  Most particularly, notice the pair of white doves located in the center of the bottom of the sampler.  These doves are nearly, if not exactly, identical to those found on several samplers from the Deerfield Area.  Model stitched on 40 ct. WDW Beige, but can be stitched on any count and stitched using NP Silk fibers:152, 224, 296, 315, 336, 342, 344  (2 skeins), 563, 633, 641, 693, 695, 771, 851, 877, 974, 986, 991, 993. Stitches used are cross stitch, over-one cross stitch, and straight stitch.  Finished size is approx. 15.25" x  18".

This project was originally taught as a class in 2015.  It is such a sweet stitchers tray that Scarlett House just had to release it so the rest of us could have one too.  The tray shown was purchased at Hobby Lobby and then modified to suit the purpose.  I doubt this exact tray is still available, but you can certainly use some of the wooden trays available.  The finished size is approx. 5 1/8" x 3 1/2" when stitched on 40 ct. linen (she used Vintage Strawflower from Lakeside Linen) and stitched using Gentle Arts: Cast Iron Skillet and Country Redwood and Weeks Dye Works, Caper, Oscar and Sage.  You will also need Louisiana Hot Sauce Weeks Wool, and Grasshopper Herringbone Wool for the strawberries.  Along with the chart you get the templates for the tray base, berry tops, and both berries, as well as finishing instructions for the tray and berries.

Stitching Under the Oaks.....................Victoria Sampler

Stitching Under the Oaks” Needlepocket was created to convey that sense of loving cameraderie we feel as we stitch together. It is stitched on a light blue cashel linen with lovely silk flosses, to reflect the beautiful blue skies and bright colours of Florida, a tropical paradise where Thea taught some special students. This reflects her feelings while in Florida as she enjoyed some different motifs of the area, including tables with stitchers sitting under the moss laden live Oak Trees, a lovely Hardanger Heart with a Blanket Stitched flower in the center, palm trees, the lake, pink roses, and even two wee Florida alligators to keep those pesky stitching errors at bay! The flamingo charms are a whimsical touch. You will find many additional specialty stitches and tidbits on both the front and the BACK of this pocket, including some drawn thread work, and some silk ribbon work to have fun with! There is an area at the lower front of the pocket to include your name and date to personalize your pocket (you can even accomodate a longer name than shown, if necessary). Be prepared to learn some new techniques and have some fun stitching the many Cross Stitched areas. To finish, instructions to create a pillow or wallhanging are at the back of this leaflet.  All pieces are stitched on 28 ct. Ice Blue Cashel, using silks from Gloriana, Kreinik Mori, and Needlepoint Silk, silk ribbon from YSL and beads and embellishments from SJ Designs and Mill Hill and 2 alligator charms.  The silk fibers, ribbons, beads and charms are included in the accessory packs available.  You will need #8 and #12 Perle Cotton not included in the accessory pack.
