Jim Shore Chicks

Jim Shore has designed a new series for Easter/Spring called Chicks and they come in multiply colors, stitched on perforated paper and stitched with DMC and beads.  What is the most interesting thing about these kits to me, is they are two sided and you even stuff them a little to give them dimension.  They have the cutest faces and come in a kit so everything except stuffing is included.  Chick kits are Aqua, Blue, Purple

Festive Little Fobs-Valentine Edition...........Heartstring Samplery

This series will consist of 12 total, one for each month of 2018.  Some will be seasonal, the rest will have general themes, good for any time of year.  The intent is for there to be a whole lot of littles that you can stitch for friends and/or that you can fill a little tree with.   Imagine if you worked your way through this entire series; with at least 9 different motifs per chart, that’s a total of 108 little ornaments or fobs that you could fill an old feather tree with. Or 108 friends that you could spoil with the labors of your hands. Beth has included basic instructions for a few of the fob finishes.  Beth's intention for this series is for the motifs to be mix-and-match-able. Your fobs don’t have to be one-sided; you could easily stitch front and back with the same motif, or with different motifs of the same size. You can customize with your initials and date over two or over one, or put in the initials of a special someone that you are making a gift for. but you can use your creativity! They are small and really quite simple to maker tree. There are no limits to the things that could be made with these little motifs.  The models were stitched on 36 ct. Weeks Parchment, but and are approx. 1.5" x 1.5".  However, you can stitched them on 32 ct or 28 ct. to get a little larger finished project.  Models were stitched using Week Dye Works: Red Rocks, Oscar, Mocha, Havana, Bluecoat Red, and Fawn, but these small projects are a great way to use left over floss in your stash.

Yuletide Shanty.........................Plum Street Samplers

Paulette loves sea themes, and decided that it was about time Santa got on board, and designed "Yuletide Shanty".  What you see in the first picture is the top with Santa on board the ship.  You also get a glimpse of the bottom of the drum which says, "Old Saint Nick he sails the seas, his beard grows long so he won't freeze."  The side of the drum features a very big white whale almost sitting on the bottom of the sea surrounded by sea life and sea plants, including a little Christmas tree.  .  He is eyeballing a wrapped gift sants left for him.  Finished size is approx. 5" x 5" when stitched on the recommended 36 ct. Weathered Shingle by R & R.  Fibers used are:

Weeks Dye Works-Onyx, Adobe, Sandcastle, Blackboard, Pebble, Grits, Deep Sea, Dover, Garrison Green, Teal Frost, Cinnabar, Cayenne, and Gunmetal.

Merry Christmas!.......................Brenda Gervais

While Brenda designed this to be stitched on 28 ct. Mushroom Lugana, I saw it and instantly saw this as a perfect design to stitch on 18 ct. over 2 for a nice size chair or sofa pillow approx. 15" x 6", using pearl cottons...fabulous.  The finished size, when working on 28 linen would be 5 3/8" x 2", for a cute pin cushion or a little accent pillow for your bowl display.  Either way a perfect pillow for Christmas.    The piece is finished off with linen ric rac trim for added detail.   If stitching over one is daunting for you, well just stitch over 2 threads or on aida and just increase the size of linen or aida you get.  For instance over 2 on 28 ct. would finish approx. 11" x 4".  Anyway you stitch it, it's a great Christmas design.  Fibers used are:

Weeks Dye Works: Palomino

Gentle Arts: Woodrose, Wood Trail and Endive

Classic Colorworks: Chili Pepper, Eggshell, Peanut Brittle & Straw Hat

Snow Birds.............................................Brenda Gervais

After the excitement of Christmas we move into January snow designs and this latest from Brenda Gervais is so cute it's a must have.  She has designed a snow scene featuring a couple of snow people dressed with hats and the lady has a scarf around her neck and the birds all have scarfs around their necks...soo cute!  A cheery scene which we sometimes need during the dark days of winter.  While you can stitch it on any size linen you want, Brenda shows it stitched on 40 ct. Weeks Dye Works Confederate Gray linen stitched over 2 threads.  Fibers used:

Weeks Due Works-Peach, Sage, & Oscar

Gentle Arts-Apple Cider, Pumpkin Pie, & Wood Trail

Classic Colorworks-Eggshell, Gingerbread, Cherry Cobbler, Tennessee Red Clay, Ye Old Gold & Cayenne

Jingle All The Way............................Brenda Gervais

2nd in what we hope will be a series (the first was Spirits and Spells), Jingle all the Way features a woodland santa surrounded by a border of holly leaves and berries.  To fit on the papier mache box lid shown, you must work on 40 ct. linen, Confederate Gray is shown on model.  However, if 40 ct. isn't your bag, then choose a larger count and find a larger oval box.   You will need a 7 3/4" x 9" cut of fabric is you are using the 40ct.  The fibers used are:

Weeks Dye Works: Peach and Oscar

Classic Colorworks-Chili Pepper, Gingerbread, Cherry Cobbler and Ye Old Gold

Gentle Arts- Woodrose, Parchment, Apple Cider, Roasted Marshmellow, and Wood Trail

For finishing she used Lady Dot Creates mini pom trim, Vintage.

Jane Vaughan 1724.................Hands Across the Sea Samplers

This is an authentic reproduction of an early 18th century band sampler, worked in the traditional long, narrow band form of the 17th century with brightly colored silks.  Jane was just 7 years old when she stitched this.  The lower half of the sampler has rows of border patterns including 2 "oriental" figures, Jane's version of boxers.  Nicole Parkman has done a beautiful job of reproducing this sampler and presenting it in a book with all the motifs counted out for you within the graph and there are comprehensive instructions together with stitch guides.  The stitches used are cross stitch over 2 and three threads, satin stitch, Algerianeyelets, Montenegrin stitch over 2 and 3 threads, stem stitch, back stitch, double running stitch, and faggot stitch.  Fibers used are Soie d'Alger: 2644(3), 3833, 4245, 5024, 3815, 37336(2), 3812(2), 2926(3), 3745, 3435, 4246, 1814, 1812, 1745, 3724(2), 1746(2), 1742..  The chart shows both the shade symbol and the colour block.  The graph has been annotated with detailed instructions, stitch diagrams and shade numbers for ease of use.  Finished size when stitching on 40 ct linen is 8.4" x 34".  Shown stitched on 40 ct. Lakeside Linen Vintage Examplar.
