This traditional project, inspired by maps stitched in the church schools and in orphanages. 

Originally band and motif samplers were stitched as works of reference.  Stitchers would be inspired by what they saw around them and create patterns and motifs accordingly.  This is how the Sulgrave Sampler came to be, inspired by Sulgrave Manor, near Banbury England, the ancestral home of  our first president, George Washington.  Stitched on linen with a variety of stitches.  Approx. design size is 6" x 28" when stitched on 28 ct. linen

A lovely band sampler designed as a tribute to the stitcher.  You can even put a gold needle in the needlebook stitched in one of the bands.  Specialty stitches are involved so this has to be worked on linen. Approx. design size is 28" x 7" 

Bill & Jane Greenoff adapted this Map of The World from an antique sampler, and it is a dramatic and challenging project to stitch.  Wonderful details, like the sea creatures and clipper ships make this an interesting piece to view.  Approx. design size  20 1/2" x 14 1/2" when stitched on 28 ct. linen.
